I'm not sure our modern world of freedom and happiness is going to last, there's just so many things that could destroy everything we love. There's Islamic terrorists, there's right-wing Russia's expansion, there's out of control climate change, there's pollution being dumped into oceans and rivers, there's nuclear weapons that could freeze the world over, there's extremely unstable digital technology running all our public systems, there's companies corrupting our governments more and more, it seems to just be a question of which will ruin everything first. All the beautiful things in the world like river otters and civil rights and art and science and the internet could be wiped out. I'm just really worried and upset by this, I don't see why everyone isn't! :(

I think we all feel that way sometimes. I know I do. It's not like no one's worried. But being worried makes more problems. You have to either figure out how to solve them or pretend they don't exist, so that you can cope.

As I get older, I just find myself getting more and more upset about everything and that really just doesn't help. Just remember, lots of people are working on solving these problems, step by step. You can't see them and they don't tell you about them unless they screw up, because that's how the media is. (I mean, come on, Ebola was around for decades and they only started making a fuss about it when it hit America!) But that doesn't mean no one's watching or everything's going to hell. Half the time, the media is just exaggerating to make it sound interesting, so...

Not sure about the whole civilisation thing though. No matter how big a civilisation is it will all fall. But that's not always a bad thing. It's just change. And the fall of a civilisation is not necessarily destruction. Sometimes it's just renewal or a shift in power. But that's not really connected to the issues you're talking about.

Even if there's a nuclear disaster or something that wipes out the majority of life on Earth, microorganisms will survive and evolution will start again. We'll be gone, yeah, but I'm not sure that's necessarily a bad thing, considering what we're doing...

I don't even know where I'm going with this, I'm sorry, I'm just really thinking out loud about what you're saying...
